3. Arriving in Greece

The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.

By air

Athens, Thessaloniki and island airports such as Heraklion and Rhodes handle substantial international traffic. The ETIAS requirement is the same for eligible travellers regardless of the Greek airport used.

By land or rail

Land arrivals from neighbouring countries use the applicable Schengen external or internal-border procedures depending on the route.

By sea

Ferries and cruise ships are especially important in Greece. Arrivals from non-Schengen countries are treated as external-border arrivals and ETIAS eligibility still applies.

4. Border and territory notes

The Greek islands are part of Greece and follow the same ETIAS framework for eligible short stays. Border formalities can differ depending on whether a ferry or other route arrives from inside or outside Schengen.

Practical information

Greece uses the euro. ETIAS does not create extra stay days beyond the 90/180-day Schengen limit.
