1. Do New Zealand citizens need ETIAS?

✓ Yes — once ETIAS becomes operational
  • You are travelling on an eligible New Zealand passport
  • Your trip is a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • You are visiting one or more of the 30 ETIAS countries
  • You are travelling for tourism, business, transit or another permitted short-stay purpose

ETIAS is a travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers. It is not a visa and approval does not itself guarantee entry at the border.

2. Passport rules for New Zealand

Use the New Zealand passport you intend to carry on the trip. ETIAS is electronically linked to that passport.

The ETIAS authorisation will be electronically linked to the passport used in the application. If that passport expires or is replaced, a new ETIAS will normally be required.

Planning Europe from New Zealand

  • ETIAS can cover eligible trips to multiple participating countries during its validity.
  • The 90/180-day short-stay rule still applies.
  • A replacement passport can require a new ETIAS.
