3. Arriving in Sweden

The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.

By air

Stockholm Arlanda is Sweden’s main international gateway, with Gothenburg and Malmö also serving international traffic. External-border arrivals use ETIAS and EES where applicable.

By land or rail

Sweden has a land border with Norway and is linked to Denmark by the Øresund bridge and rail connection. These are internal Schengen routes.

By sea

Baltic ferries and cruise ships are major travel routes. Border formalities depend on whether the vessel arrives from inside or outside the Schengen Area.

4. Border and territory notes

Sweden is fully in Schengen. Internal-border travel can still be subject to temporary checks, so travellers should keep the passport linked to ETIAS available.

Practical information

Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK). The 90/180-day limit is calculated across the entire Schengen Area.
