2. Who needs ETIAS for Slovakia?
Travellers from eligible visa-exempt countries will need ETIAS for short trips to Slovakia once the system is operational. Document-specific conditions can apply to some passports.
3. Arriving in Slovakia
The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.
Bratislava Airport is the main airport in Slovakia, while Vienna Airport in neighbouring Austria is also commonly used by travellers heading to Bratislava. External-border arrivals use ETIAS and EES where applicable.
Slovakia has internal Schengen borders with Austria, Czechia, Poland and Hungary, and an external Schengen border with Ukraine.
Slovakia is landlocked. Danube river travel is common around Bratislava and remains subject to the travellerβs Schengen and ETIAS eligibility.

The Ukrainian border is an external Schengen border, while travel from Austria, Czechia, Poland and Hungary is within Schengen.
