3. Arriving in Iceland

The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.

By air

Keflavík International Airport is the main international gateway. Eligible travellers arriving from outside Schengen use the applicable ETIAS and EES procedures.

By land or rail

Iceland has no international land borders. Domestic road travel does not create additional ETIAS requirements once the traveller has lawfully entered.

By sea

Cruise and ferry passengers arriving from outside Schengen are subject to the relevant external-border procedures and ETIAS eligibility.

4. Border and territory notes

Iceland is in Schengen but not the EU. This distinction matters for some customs and goods rules, which are separate from ETIAS.

Practical information

Iceland uses the Icelandic króna (ISK). ETIAS does not change customs rules or the Schengen-wide 90/180-day short-stay limit.
