3. Arriving in Finland

The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.

By air

Helsinki Airport is Finland’s main international gateway. Eligible travellers arriving from outside Schengen use the applicable ETIAS and EES procedures.

By land or rail

Finland has land borders with Sweden and Norway inside Schengen and an external Schengen border with Russia. Border formalities therefore vary by route.

By sea

Ferries from Sweden and Estonia are common Schengen routes, while other sea arrivals can involve external-border processing depending on origin.

4. Border and territory notes

Finland is fully in Schengen. The Åland Islands are an autonomous part of Finland and remain within the Finnish Schengen framework for short-stay travel.

Practical information

Finland uses the euro. The 90/180-day short-stay rule applies across Schengen as a whole, not separately to Finland.

Frequently asked questions

When will ETIAS become operational?

Will ETIAS cover the Åland Islands?

For eligible short-stay travel, the Åland Islands form part of Finland and the relevant Schengen framework.
