3. Arriving in Slovakia

The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.

By air

Bratislava Airport is the main airport in Slovakia, while Vienna Airport in neighbouring Austria is also commonly used by travellers heading to Bratislava. External-border arrivals use ETIAS and EES where applicable.

By land or rail

Slovakia has internal Schengen borders with Austria, Czechia, Poland and Hungary, and an external Schengen border with Ukraine.

By sea

Slovakia is landlocked. Danube river travel is common around Bratislava and remains subject to the traveller’s Schengen and ETIAS eligibility.

4. Border and territory notes

The Ukrainian border is an external Schengen border, while travel from Austria, Czechia, Poland and Hungary is within Schengen.

Practical information

Slovakia uses the euro. The 90/180-day short-stay rule is calculated across the Schengen Area as a whole.
