1. Do Ukrainian citizens need ETIAS?

✓ Yes — once ETIAS becomes operational
  • You are travelling on an eligible Ukraine passport
  • Your trip is a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • You are visiting one or more of the 30 ETIAS countries
  • You are travelling for tourism, business, transit or another permitted short-stay purpose

ETIAS is a travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers. It is not a visa and approval does not itself guarantee entry at the border.

2. Passport rules for Ukraine

The biometric-passport condition matters. Apply for ETIAS with the same qualifying Ukrainian biometric passport you will use for the journey.

Document-specific rule

Your eligibility depends on the passport type described above. If your document does not meet that condition, do not assume ETIAS replaces a visa.

The Ukrainian biometric-passport rule

  • A qualifying biometric passport is required for the visa-free category relevant to ETIAS.
  • ETIAS does not turn a non-qualifying passport into a visa-exempt document.
  • The normal 90/180-day short-stay rule remains separate from ETIAS validity.
