Quick answer

Eligible children need their own ETIAS authorisation. Applicants under 18 are exempt from the €20 application fee.

Every child needs an individual ETIAS

ETIAS does not use family or group authorisations. Each eligible child has their own authorisation linked to their own travel document.

Children under 18 do not pay the application fee

Applicants under 18 are exempt from the €20 ETIAS application fee. The fee exemption does not remove the ETIAS requirement itself.

A parent or another authorised person can apply for a child

The official system allows another person to submit an application on someone’s behalf, subject to the representation requirements. Make sure the child’s own passport details are entered correctly.

What if the child turns 18 after ETIAS is granted?

The EU states that the authorisation remains valid until its normal expiry. Turning 18 does not automatically require a new application.

Frequently asked questions

Can children be included in a parent’s ETIAS?

No. Each authorisation is individual.

Does a baby need ETIAS?

If the child is an eligible traveller, they need their own authorisation even though the fee is waived.

Does a child need a new ETIAS on their 18th birthday?

No. An existing authorisation remains valid until its normal expiry.
