2. Who needs ETIAS for Hungary?
Travellers from eligible visa-exempt countries will need ETIAS for short trips to Hungary once the system is operational. Document-specific conditions can apply to some passports.
3. Arriving in Hungary
The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is the principal international gateway. External-border arrivals use the applicable ETIAS and EES process.
Hungary has internal Schengen borders with Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia, and external Schengen borders with Serbia and Ukraine.
Hungary has no sea coast. Danube river-cruise passengers remain subject to the travellerβs underlying ETIAS and Schengen eligibility.
4. Border and territory notes
Border formalities depend strongly on the route: internal Schengen crossings differ from arrivals from Serbia or Ukraine, where external-border checks apply.
Practical information
Hungary uses the Hungarian forint (HUF). ETIAS does not replace the Schengen-wide 90/180-day stay calculation.
