Quick answer

ETIAS is linked to the travel document used in the application. If you receive a new passport, you need a new ETIAS for that new document.

A renewed passport needs a new ETIAS

The authorisation is tied to the travel-document number and other document data. It does not migrate automatically when a passport is renewed or replaced.

Name, gender or nationality changes

If you replace your travel document to reflect a change in name, surname, gender or nationality, the EU says you need a new ETIAS linked to the new document.

Lost, stolen or damaged passport

If the passport linked to ETIAS can no longer be used and you receive a replacement document, apply for a new ETIAS using the replacement document.

What if the original application contains a mistake?

For substantial mistakes such as a wrong nationality, passport number, email or name, the EU says the quickest approach is generally to submit a new application with the corrected data. Minor corrections can also be requested but may take longer.

i

Do not assume that an ETIAS visible in an old email is valid for a new passport. The carrier check is document-specific.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer ETIAS to my new passport?

No. Apply for a new authorisation using the new travel document.

What if my passport expires before the three-year ETIAS period?

ETIAS expires when the linked travel document expires.

I changed only my address. Do I need a new passport-linked ETIAS?

Not every personal-information change requires a new travel document. Follow the official correction guidance for the specific change.
