Quick answer

ETIAS is valid for up to three years or until the linked travel document expires, whichever comes first.

ETIAS can be valid for up to three years

A granted ETIAS can support multiple eligible trips during its validity period. It does not reset or extend the 90/180-day short-stay limit.

Passport expiry can shorten ETIAS validity

ETIAS is tied to your travel document. If that document expires before the three-year maximum, the authorisation expires with it.

When can I renew ETIAS?

The EU says you will receive information about the upcoming expiry and can apply for a new ETIAS from 120 days before the current authorisation expires.

Turning 18 does not cancel an existing ETIAS

An ETIAS granted to a child remains valid until its normal expiry even if that person turns 18 during the validity period.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter Europe multiple times with one ETIAS?

Yes, while the authorisation and linked travel document remain valid and you respect the applicable stay limits.

Does a three-year ETIAS allow me to stay for three years?

No. ETIAS validity and the permitted length of each short stay are different rules.

Will my ETIAS transfer to a renewed passport?

No. A new travel document requires a new ETIAS.
