1. Overview
ETIAS will apply to eligible short visits to Romania for tourism, business and other permitted purposes. Romania is fully within the Schengen Area.

2. Who needs ETIAS for Romania?
Travellers from eligible visa-exempt countries will need ETIAS for short trips to Romania once the system is operational. Document-specific conditions can apply to some passports.
3. Arriving in Romania
The ETIAS requirement is linked to your eligibility and travel document. The border procedure can differ depending on how and from where you arrive.
Bucharest Henri Coandă is Romania’s largest international airport, with Cluj-Napoca, Iași and other airports also serving international routes. External-border arrivals use ETIAS and EES where applicable.
Romania has internal Schengen borders with Hungary and Bulgaria and external Schengen borders with Serbia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Black Sea arrivals through Constanța and other ports are subject to the same ETIAS eligibility rules, with external-border processing where relevant.
4. Border and territory notes
Romania is fully in Schengen. Routes from Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia are external Schengen borders; routes from Hungary and Bulgaria are internal Schengen travel.
Practical information
Romania uses the Romanian leu (RON), not the euro. The normal Schengen-wide 90/180-day short-stay limit applies.
